Storybird

This morning all the children were introduced to

www.storybird.com

This is a reading and writing website where the students can create their own story books. They had a great time this morning exploring and are really excited to keep on using it at home. Each child has their own username and password.
I look forward to seeing some of your creations soon.

This is what Room 12 knows about Electricity.

·      If you rub a balloon on your head, static electricity comes up on your head.
·      If you rub your hand on a trampoline and then touch someone you can give them an electric shock!
·      If you put a piece of metal into an electric socket, you could get electrocuted!
·      There are lots of ways that you can generate electricity – like from volcanoes, the sun, wind, water.
·      Electricity has negative and positive directions or charges.
·      Electricity can go through electric fences.
·      Birds don’t get electrocuted on wires because they are not touching the ground. Electricity wants to get to the ground.
·      Electricity can be carried by water, like a power line.
·      Lots of friction creates static electricity.
·      Electricity flows through metal.

Camp Details

Our exciting camp at Living Springs is fast approaching, I know this will be a highlight of our year together.

I am currently completing health summaries and I have 11 families who have not provided a date for their child's most recent tetanus injection. I need to have the actual date, so if this is you, I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to call your GP and email me the date.

Many thanks for this,
Tamara Saxon.

Ngaire's Poem

Ngaire is not sure what this is about - what do you think?

Standing,
Alone,
With the wind,
Tossing her hair,
In the warmth of the sand,
Different
But the same.

 Crying,
Without words
The waves laugh and turn away,
Different
But the same.

Silent,
Tripping and tumbling,
Falling,
and different
But the same.

How amazing is our Ngaire the writer?!

Ms Saxon's Pride

Last night I watched all the movies at the S'Mart Film Festival - Lights, Camera, Action.

I know I am biased, but... I have to say I was so proud of Ghostishocks and the Haunted Socks. This movie has been totally created, from start to finish, by the students of Room 12. We wrote what we knew was a great story right at the start of the term. It was clever, funny, and with a great twist on the original Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Louie decided that our film should start and end with a poem - so he wrote them! Kyan and Fritha took charge of the storyboarding. Ngaire, Adam, Paige and Sophie sorted the script. A location crew went out and staked out the best spots to film crucial parts of our movie, a set was cleverly created by Ruby and Amelia. It was all go!!
Louie and Fritha co-operated to co-direct the action. Jake led the camera crew. Findlay and his team immediately began the editing process, working out what was needed and what order the parts needed to go in. Green screening was given a go, two boys, Louis and Finn, in particular really put themselves outside their comfort zone. The music team added their expertise. Masses of learning was happening with everyone involved. I could just sit back and watch the children lead an amazing product.

Last night I heard people laugh, I heard people comment on the clever creation that Room 12 had made, and I could not have been more proud.

Congratulations Team, you guys created something amazing!

Ms Saxon.
