Building Vocabulary

Today in Room 12 we tested our vocabulary to see how well we understand words.
We had a big discussion about how we improve our understanding and grow the number of words we use.
We decided the best way to improve was not about reading, or writing, or studying the dictionary (BORING!!), but about having conversations. Those times when we are all sitting round the dinner table together and we talk about our day, about what we see out the window, about the dark clouds looming above, about the birds squealing with laughter. Those times when we are at the beach and we talk about the things we see in the shallow pools, about the seagulls swooping overhead, about the thundering waves crashing on the jagged rocks. Those times when you are stuck in the car on a hot, sweltering day staring out the window at whatever is passing by.

I am sure you can all think of wonderful opportunities to grow your children's vocabulary, please leave a comment below if you have some suggestions. Keep having those important conversations! Thanks.

Ms Saxon.
