Check out the language development that has happened in Room 12 this year. This has been a huge focus of ours and I am sure you will be blown away by the writing below.
The Ocean's Monster
Ruby
The monster roars in terror
Luring me in
A solitary whale sings a lonesome song
Calling for help.
A loud crash wakes me from my trance
The fatal scream echoes.
Foam blankets the stormy top
And then it is all quiet.
Finn
Thrashing waves
Blowing at the side of the gully
Slaves heaving the oars
To the sound of drums.
A solitary ship appears in the distance
Firing cannons at the gully
Letting water seep in
The gully slowly sinks to his fate.
A black figure circles the murderer
As a long tentacle rises
And smashes the pirate's ship in half
Leaving it to sink
Never to be discovered.
Emily
The mist emerges from the unknown
Bringing silence to a hidden place
Beyond the sea bed.
In search of shells
Hidden beneath the foamy floor
Luring a predator from the darkness
Leaving a storm.
Incessant waves crash
Against a sunken ship
Bringing war back to peace.
Chloe
Horrendous sea
Calm sea
Changes
The tide
In and out
But there is never this.
Not a single person in sight
No ship on the horizon
As the ocean instantly turns dark
I look up
And there is only one lonesome cloud in sight.
I look up again
It's gone
The one and only white cloud.
As silence comes upon us
I freeze
In the distance I heard
What I thought was coming.
Maia
The ocean's blanket is made
Of crystal water
Abandoned ships floating, staying still.
A monster circling around the ships
Something big
Something dangerous.
I realised it's luring me into the unknown
I realised there is more than one
It's only just the beginning.
Evie
The crashing waves on the sparkling shore
Thunder rolling in
The storm's coming
Clouds covering the darkening sky
Ships sinking to the ocean floor
People playing run for cover
Just me alone in my little yacht
Unable to get to shore
Towering waves rise and fall
Not a soul to be seen
Just me being dumped again and again
By the powering waves
I fall into the long sleep of peace
Hidden from sight under the foam
Of the ocean's quilt.
The Ocean's Blanket
Jaeden
The ocean's blanket is made of bright and colourful coral
Where the extinct creature is now back
Lurking in the depths for a snack
Everything near it fleeing in terror.
Silver scales glistening in the sun's beam of light
Dashing into the darkness
But this giant creature is too quick
The mysterious beast eats everything in its path
Devouring one by one.
As this deep sea criminal grows larger
Nothing will stand in its way
Trying to claim the ocean for itself
Bringing back its population
Eating ships with the people that attempt to take out this ocean monster.
It will never give up to claim the seas.
Sophie
Hidden beneath a misty quilt
Lies the secrets of the ocean
As the wind sways, gently rocking the foamy waves
Charcoal clouds loom over the quilt.
Glimpses of colour dart under the surface
Our eyes skim the darkness
Leading me into oblivion.
Tumbling waves engulf abandoned shipes
Submerging them into the mysterious cover
A mountain of water caves over me
Taking me to the beyond.
Ngaire
Demons
Hidden beneath a salty quilt
The storm
The storm will overcome them.
Tearful cries
Lure them,
From their ebony palace,
The storm
Awaits them.
Those demons
Waltz,
With the darkening clouds
Their watery kingdom
Abandoned.
Braeden
The sparkling sea splashes hard
On the giant rocks.
Golden sand blows my face
Seagulls squawking, skidding on the water.
Sandcastles getting destroyed
Sharks swimming out deep
Surfers falling off surfboards
Light blue waves fall on surfers
Jet boats race along the sea
I paddle on my surfboard into another world.
Paige
The sea
Calm and quiet
An abundance of sound
Low and eerie.
Rolling thunder
Works with doubt
Slowly but surely
Taking its place over the ocean.
The sun hides
Behind a mass of depression
Leaving the sea alone
With the death defying sound.
There is a flash of electricity
Eyes follow it
Along its journey
Over the ocean's blanket.
Claudia
With schools of fish darting
To the depths of the unknown
They blanket the shore.
The crabs scurry with fear
And the fish scamper away
As the devil approaches.
It searches for its prey
But to no avail
So it moves along.
Ruairi
It beckons
Luring
Persuading
Green darts and orange glints beneath the surface.
Then all is silent
The calm before a storm
It breathes slowly
Lying in wait
Ready to pounce.
An ignorant traveler passes
It strikes, engulfing the boat in a salty blanket.
Amelia
It beckons me in
Revealing the unknown
As the truth slips away
I freeze in my tracks.
A salty quilt lies upon the surface
Faded colours dart
Oblivion takes over my face
A booming releases my trance.
I look around
But the source is nowhere to be seen
I feel light drops of water
It has begun.
Louie
The cargo ship's low foghorn moan rings out across eerie, silent sea,
While fathoms below it stirs and awakens the monstrous, blood-thirsty creatures,
That lurk and loiter in the cavernous trenches,
Long forgotten by man.
Ahead a ghostly silhouette sings in a layered voice of beauty
Combing her hands through her treasured locks,
Before sliding away beneath the churning waves.
A solitary beam of moonlights slants through the thick, grey, ominous clouds,
Spotlighting the petrified iron figurehead of the doomed ship,
The salty white caps swamp the decks
As the sea claims the vessel as its own.
