Today we began looking at the characters in Voices in the Park by Anthony Browne. We looked through the pictures and realised we could infer heaps about the four characters without even reading the words.
We talked about using our prior knowledge to be able to infer - Emily knew that it was set in Autumn because the trees were orange, Isaiah thought he didn't like Mother because she was 'angry' and 'stuck up', Maia spotted the changing trees in the background that looked like they were yelling just like Mother, Jake thought Mother wanted to be posh because she named her dog Victoria (like a queen) and her son Charles (like a prince).
We got so much more information than what was just written on the pages.
Aren't we clever?!
I love this book
