Ravenous Readers

It is really exciting to see so many children really motivated by our Ravenous Reader awards. Some have really expanded their reading interests and so many are showing huge improvements in their understanding of texts.

Elizabeth is particularly clever because she reads equally well in both Russian and English! Because of this fantastic skill, she is including some Russian texts in her list. What a wonderful thing to be able to do - congratulations Elizabeth!!

Filming Has Begun

Filming of Goldilocks, The Horror, has begun. A camera crew team, our director, Goldilocks, and some storyboarders went out on location this morning. They shot some scenes in a forest and at the 3 bears' house. It was interesting to see how many takes were needed before the teams got what they wanted. Goldilocks' shoes were too big, the light was too bright, our porridge was too stiff, there were lots of things to deal with. Our set-up props crew have done a great job of creating a dining room in our classroom. It is all a learning curve for Room 12, but it is so exciting to see every child involved in some way.

Here are a few photos on set in Room 12.

Are you wondering about the odd family photos by this dining table?

Who could this dining table be set up for?

Tricky Times Tables

We have worked out that there are only six tricky times tables.
Here they are...

6 x 6 = 36

6 x 7 = 42

6 x 8 = 48

7 x 7 = 49

7 x 8 = 56

8 x 8 = 64

How many have you got nailed?!

Wintry Poems

This morning many in Room 12 went outside and braved the elements to be inspired to write. Check out some of them below.

Winter These Days
Chloe

Wet winter
Why?
Dripping from the eaves
Sleet taking over the city
As the rain falls from the trees
Wind whistling through the air
Everyone's hair drenched
Clothes wet
The sun in prison
Can't melt the bars
As the clouds keep laughing.

Sad and Depressed
Nguts

The wind pulls me away
The icy rain biting at my face
Gloomy and grey
Sad and depressed
As winter closes in
There's no way out.

Winter
Emily

Incessant rain fills the air with clouds
As it discovers a cold and frozen blizzard
Puddles
Wind whistling
Bombing sleet
As snow fades into the unknown
As it escapes to icy cold water
Melting away.

Destroyer
Ruairi

White blankets the world
Destroying the colour
Spikes frozen in time
Unable to move
Over weight clouds release themselves
Saturating everything
As water pelts down
The mountains disappear before your eyes
But in another world they are safe.

Freezing
Maia

Freezing, freezing, freezing!
Land of melting winter
Water dripping from your cheeks
Wind whistling in your ear.

As the sun fades in the dark
Sleet crying down
Making huge puddles
Cold
Freezing
Dripping
And listen to that river flowing
In the distance.

Sophie

Freezing and dripping
Clouds wailing in agony
Wind whistling and attacking
Stripping trees cold and bare.

Sun vanished
Incessant rain taking over
Snow covering the city like a blanket
Sun pleading to be seen.

Slushy puddles
Eating the ground
Getting bigger and bigger
Drenching the land.

Ngaire

Howling
With mocking laughter
Pushing the leaves
Crumpled
And old
To their fate.

Ripping at the trees
Angry
As they fight back
And he orders rain
To join his army.

Vicious
Led by the wind
With his painful screech
As they overpower
Triumphant.

Blizzards
Amelia

Wind howling, screeching, yelling through trees
Raging water, plummeting from the sky
Coldness stinging me like needles
Rain screaming as it hits the ground.

Dripping, squelching, splashing
Brown rivers overflowing
Flooding the streets
Snow whispers as it gently vanishes into the ground.

Storm clouds suddenly disappear
Telling me that this will not be over
Puddles slowly migrate
The storm is over.

Braeden

Howling with laughter from the wind
Hailing heavily on my head
Snow falling off the ice trees
Snow covered the footpath
Grey clouds cover the sky
Leaves blow off the trees.

In pain from frostbite
Mountains with snow on the top.

Fritha

Howling winds
Calling for battle
Birds travelling
Tweeting
Looking for food.

Mud rushing down a brook
Splashing
As it nibbles the edges of snow
Sleet slicing at my face
Scratching and banging.

Movie Making Updates

After a great visit from Findlay's dad, Douglas, yesterday afternoon, we are really starting to get going on our movie. Our story is complete, with all children contributing to it, and it is STUNNING!

Next week we are hoping to have Goldilocks' dining room set up in Room 12. Some children are bringing along props to help us with this. We have to make sure that one corner of our classroom looks nothing like a classroom!

Almost all the children in Room 12 have written a letter applying for positions they wish to hold. We have such a lot of talent in our room. We will have a male Goldilocks which should create a bit of fun...

This morning we had our location team out finding suitable locations to shoot forest scenes, an old cottage, steps, a bed and a door. They took photos of possible spots to bring back to class.

We also had our script writing team getting towards the end of their job. The storyboard team are nearly finished too. We think we are almost ready to begin shooting our film!

Keep an eye out for details and be sure to ask your children why there is a picture of socks below.
