Rehua Marae

Today Rooms 10, 11, 12 & 13 visited Rehua Marae.
We were welcomed on with a Powhiri and told a number of stories about the traditions of this Marae. If we were there for the first time we had 'waiwai tapu' or 'sacred feet'. The carvings of this Marae were done by one man and they took 2-3 years to complete. Kaumatua Henare talked to us about many of the special features of the Marae.
This was a wonderful experience for the children and I think, though some were nervous to begin with, they all felt welcome at Rehua Marae.
