Opening Night!

Lights, Camera, Action!

The opening night is here, the excitement is building...

This afternoon we saw a sneak peak of a few movies, they were all so different. We think ours got the most laughs (we may be biased!)

Tonight and tomorrow night are sold out, there are only 30 tickets left for Thursday night - get in quick if you haven't already. Remember your tickets, your cushions and your snacks. Come celebrate with us.

See you there!

Continuum of Opinions

This morning we looked at an article on Stuff about a Year 11 student in the North Island who has been suspended from his school because he didn't follow the rule of boys not having long hair.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/education/10151570/Kicked-out-of-school-for-having-long-hair

After reading the article and discussing it, we had to stand on a continuum from strongly agree to strongly disagree and then justify our reason for standing where we had chosen to stand. It really got R12 thinking!

Jake strongly agreed that he should have been stood down because the rule had been set by the school and he had been aware of it and chose to break it. Ruby felt strongly that he should not have been stood down because he should have had the right to wear his own hair in the way that he chooses. She thought that boys and girls should have equal rights.

It was great to hear the children expressing really strong and differing opinions very clearly, and being respected by the others in our class. We had a discussion around rules at school and at home which was also interesting.

What do you think?

Louis the Tae Kwon Do Exponent

Last week Louis did a grading at Cardinal's Tae Kwon Do. He earned his red belt (the one before BLACK!!) He had to remember patterns of movement, kicking on pads, as well as lots of sparring fights.

Louis has been doing Tae Kwon Do for about five years. Ms Saxon is really excited that she might get invited along to see him gain his black belt in the future!

Congratulations Louis, we won't mess with you!

Jake the Clarinet Player

Our amazing musician Jake, has auditioned to play in the special concert band as part of the Christchurch Schools Music Festival. Yesterday he heard that he has been accepted! This is a massive achievement as only a small number of students from all over Canterbury are selected.

Jake will be sitting his Grade 4 clarinet exam later this year.

Congratulations Jake! We are all so proud of you.

Ghostishocks and the Haunted Socks

"This Oscar - winning film, starring the amazing actor, Louis Hobson, is now being brought to New Zealand cinemas in incredible new 4D effect.
With stunning special effects, this graphic thriller is sure to go down as a horror-loving teenage favourite."

Are you keen to see the fabulous Room 12 movie? And the others from our school? Get your tickets now, forms come home today.

I have to say I am excited! I am so glad that I teach in this area of the school where we have absolute superstars who are able to lead every step. Findlay and Jake, amongst many others, have been total rockstars during this learning. Thank you all and HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!!
